Road trips are all about long open roads and the constant lookout for a farm stall to stop, fill up, get a bite to eat or to stock up on Padkos. A stop at Route 27 Roosterkoek for authentic padkos and moerkoffie hits the spot!
If you ever find yourself driving on the R27 toward the Cape West Coast and feel your tummy rumbling, make a beeline for the newest and tastiest restaurant, the Route 27 Roosterkoek. We had just spent the weekend at !Khwa ttu San (blog to follow soon) and were packing up to head home last Sunday when we all decided to try out Route 27 Roosterkoek – which is located just down the road from !Khwa ttu.
Route 27 Roosterkoek is housed in a bright blue container with tables outside shaded by a big tent. There is also a second container that houses a biltong shop and a gift shop where you can buy the funniest t-shirts and knick-knacks.
The staff are all super helpful and friendly. The professional baker is off on the side rolling out the dough and braaing them and you can take a peek at him while he does it! It doesn’t get fresher than that.
We sat down and ordered Moerkoffie and the Weskus 6 – which is 6 small roosterkoeks with a variety of fillings. We sipped on our Moerkoffie while the kids played a game of noughts & crosses and I went off to read & laugh at their funny signs and to watch the baker make our Weskus 6.
We were all so excited when we saw the waitress bring our food! The Weskus 6 comes with 2 Cheese & Jam, Chicken Mayo and Mince Curry. They were all delicious. They were fresh, hot and so tasty.
The baker was kind enough to let me photograph him while he baked our Roosterkoek, even though that fire was blazing hot.
