I was recently invited to review a restaurant in Linden, Johannesburg, called ROSTO. I checked out their website and loved their motto: “We make chicken fly”. ROSTO is an Italian roastery which specializes in free range chicken, spit-roasted in front of a wood burning fire. They also offer Italian street food like fries & salad which you can eat as sides with your meal.
When I arrived I was greeted by friendly staff and Alex, the owner, who chatted to me about the concept behind ROSTO which is good quality Italian street food made with the freshest ingredients.
I loved the decor. Just look at these photos:
I let Alex help me order and he suggested some chicken (obviously, that’s why I was there), some Twice Fried Chips, Panelle (which is a flat Chickpea fry) and Focaccia. Let me tell you, the chicken was so well cooked: juicy, moist and incredibly delicious. There was not a dry, boring piece of chicken in the house! My new favourite carb, the Panelle, was so good. You have to order this if you go to ROSTO.
While digging into this huge meal, I browsed the menu to see what else they had to offer. A wide variety of meatballs, salads, oven-baked alternatives like lasagna, and sandwiches. Every Thursday they roast a whole, boneless pig rolled in rosemary, sage, fennel, white wine, and garlic. You have to book for this Thursday special as it is very popular.
I ended off my meal with a Semifreddo al Torrone with an espresso poured over it. WOW. What a great ending to a very memorable meal.
Spoil the family with a lavish Sunday lunch. Order some chicken, a few sides, and some focaccia and dig into some tasty Italian street food.
