Parys is a small town situated on the banks of the Vaal river in the Free State – approximately an hours drive from Johannesburg. The town is the gateway to the Vredefort Dome, the oldest and largest meteorite impact site in the world. This quaint town is a popular day visit for those living in Gauteng. Some come for lunch at one of the many gorgeous restaurants on Breë Street or to do a little antiquing.
The road trip from Johannesburg to Parys was really pretty as the scenery turned from industrial to farmland and we got to see a lot of cows, horses and sheep.
We visited on one of the hottest days of the year, it was 38 degrees but luckily we arrived quite early as we wanted to take a walk and check out all the little shops along Breë Street.
Parys is a great day visit or better yet spend the weekend and participate in some of the activities in the area, such as: river rafting, zip lining, quad biking, golfing and so much more!
