The last time I was at the Vineyard Hotel, I was fresh out of college and assisting a fabulous photographer at an even more fabulous wedding. Not much time to explore and enjoy the hotel and the grounds, it was all work, work, work.
Two weeks ago my boys and I were invited to a breakfast to celebrate a birthday at the Garden Lounge at the Vineyard Hotel. The hotel looks so unassuming from the road, but once you have parked your car and walked through the gardens to the restaurant, you kind of forget you are in the city. The venue was chosen because not only do they have an impressive breakfast buffet, the grounds are super kid-friendly.
While we waited for everyone to arrive, the boys and I explored the gardens. We found 3 huge tortoises, each with their own unique number on their shells. They just munched on the grass as we inspected them – clearly, they were used to the attention.
They offer a Continental Breakfast, which is a cold buffet only, or the Full English Breakfast, which is the Continental Breakfast plus your choice of hot a la carte dishes. We obviously went for the Full English! After sorting the boys out, I started with Scones with strawberry jam and cream – I seem to be going through a scone phase – but I am not complaining, scones are great. I also had some scrambled egg, salmon and, a flaky croissant. So delicious!
The service was great, our waiter was very kind and patient with my boys (they can be messy) and the food was delicious. But the highlight of the Vineyard Hotel was definitely the garden. There is a river running through the grounds, and a few walking paths you can take after you have finished your meal.
Tip: If the weather is good, get a table outside. The views of the garden and the mountains are just too beautiful to pass up. And, your kids can play and run wild on the grass while you sip on your tea and eat your scone – Sunday sorted.
I definitely want to go back for the high tea – without the kids though. Maybe a girls day out?
