Sunday Luncheon at De Hoek Country Hotel

The lovely people at De Hoek Country Hotel invited me and a plus one to enjoy their Sunday Luncheon, and I jumped at the chance to experience a tasty meal in a beautiful location. My plus one for the day was my niece, who recently turned 18, and I thought it would be a nice way to spend some quality time with her before she dives head first into her last 6 months of matric.

De Hoek Country Hotel is located in a crook of the Magalies River in the lush and fertile valley of the Magaliesburg Mountains and only an hour and fifteen minutes away from Johannesburg. This makes it the perfect day outing if you are looking for somewhere close enough to escape the city for a few hours. Although, staying over after the lunch we had, would be even better.

When we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff, and because we were a little bit early (they were still setting up for lunch), I took the opportunity to walk around and take some photos. The hotel is simply beautiful, and I can see why it is a top choice for brides looking for a destination wedding. When I stumbled upon the pool, I imagined long lazy days, lounging by the pool in a stylish, oversized sun hat, sipping on a cocktail. Life goals!

When we went inside to check if our table was ready, we were offered a welcome drink. We were served a refreshing cold drink with the biggest smile. By this time we were both hungry, having not had any breakfast – we were saving room for lunch!

We were seated in The Conservatory gardens, under an umbrella and our waiter brought us menus. They have a set menu, with a few options for you to choose from. It was quite difficult to choose between the options as they all sounded amazing.

To start with, I had the Prawns in Chili tomato sauce and Mediterranean cous cous. For mains: The Grilled Beef Fillet with sautéed vegetables, fondant potato, and a cafe latte sauce. And, to end off, was dessert, my favourite part of any meal: Homemade Chocolate Marquee and a Chocolate Macaron.

Here is what makes this place special: the location, it’s close proximity to Johannesburg makes it the perfect day trip; the service was top-notch with their super friendly staff, and the food was delicious. I am pretty sure that staying at the hotel would be phenomenal – which I hope to experience one day.
