La Clé des Montagnes in Franschhoek

The name La Clé des Montagnes means the key to the mountains in French which I quickly realized to be true as I stood amongst the ripening vineyards in the late afternoon sun. With sweeping views of the mountains that encircle Franschhoek, and within walking distance of the culinary capital of South Africa, La Clé des Montagnes is the perfect French getaway.

I had the opportunity to visit La Clé des Montagnes to photograph both the Village and the Lodge and, as a bonus, I got to stay over too!

La Clé des Montagnes

Spanning two incredible properties, La Clé des Montagnes boasts the quaint & private La Clé Lodge and the stylish & exclusive La Clé Village, both only a quick walk from each other.

The La Clé Village is made up of four villas, each with its own unique style with 2-4 bedrooms. Each villa has its own back yard and pool. These villas can be booked on a per room basis or you can rent the entire villa for your extended family. Children of all ages are welcome at the village, and with all that space, just watch them blossom!

I stayed at La Clé Lodge, which oozes the classic charm of a traditional Cape Dutch home coupled with the design and finishes by Jacques Erasmus of Hemelhuijs. The bathroom in my Garden Room was beyond decadent. That shower was a dream and perfect for couples really, as it has two large showerheads, you know, for those romantic moments.

Location, location, location. It doesn’t get much better than La Clé. Enjoy a quick, scenic walk to the main road in Franschhoek, where you are spoilt for choice when it comes to restaurants, art galleries, boutiques and more. And, some of the best wine estates are located just a short drive away. It really is a foodie heaven.
