Cape Point in pictures

It’s no secret that it can get pretty blistery up at Cape Point and the day we visited it was proper windy, overcast and cold – a perfect winters day. After living in Johannesburg for 3 years and having to endure the weird winters they have here, I sometimes miss the miserable, rainy winter days of Cape Town.

Cape Point is in the Cape of Good Hope nature reserve within the Table Mountain National Park,  which forms part of the Cape Floral Region, a World Heritage Site. The drive is quite pretty, with Fynbos as far as the eye can see. Entry into the park costs R125 per adult and R65 per child – however if you have a  My Green Card (exclusive to residents of Cape Town) you will receive 12 free entries into any of the Table Mountain National Park’s pay points.

Once I got to Cape Point I took the Flying Dutchman Funicular up to the old Lighthouse. The funicular only takes you so far and you have to climb the stairs the rest of the way. Climbing those stairs reminded me of how unfit I was. Once I got to the top, out of breath, I just stood there and looked at the view. It was magnificent. It was windy. But it was magnificent.
