Bed & Breakfast But Better At Darling Lodge

Did you know that the town of Darling is only an hours drive from Cape Town? This makes it the perfect day trip for most visitors. However, because there is so much to see and do in the town, I highly recommend you stay over a night or two. You are going to want to take some time to enjoy the town and surrounds. Darling has so many charming accommodation spots to choose from, and I recently spent some time at Darling Lodge Guest House.

I was welcomed by Stephan and Oliver who own and run this quaint guesthouse and they lovingly showed me their pride and joy. Originally from Germany, they left the rat race for a quieter more meaningful life in South Africa.

The Guest House offers a harmonious blend of old and new. The main house, the Victorian charm of which has remained intact, offers three individually decorated country-style rooms. The more modern garden annex consists of three further generously appointed rooms with a grape-vine covered patio which overlooks the sparkling swimming pool. Each room is dedicated to a local artist, whose work is on display and can be purchased.

While the bedrooms are stunning and comfortable, the main star of Darling Lodge is the garden. Guests are welcome to enjoy a cup of tea in the garden or laze around the gorgeous pool after a day of sightseeing. There are bird feeders in the trees that attract a variety of birds to the garden.

The recent drought did have an effect on their garden, but Stephan and Oliver were quick to implement water-saving measures. Most notably, each room has been equipped with a bucket, and guests can collect their shower water and redistribute it in the garden. Stephan explained that all their guests, local and international, have all be on board with this system.

As Stephan and I sat in the garden with some tea while we spoke about life, Darling and everything in between, group of ladies arrived for a girls weekend. They arrived laughing and with a fun energy, and I just knew they were going to have a great weekend in Darling.

Darling Lodge Guest House is the perfect spot for your weekend away, whether it’s a romantic weekend, friends getaway, or a family breakaway. They are also the perfect venue for small business meetings and conferences, individual retreats, anniversaries or weddings of up to 24 guests. Children of all ages are welcome.
