I haven’t posted since May because sometimes life happens and I find myself just way too busy with children and work that I can’t seem to get away to explore. This morning I woke up with a major urge to just get in the car and drive. Which is exactly what I did. I took a Sunday Drive from Cape Town to Yzerfontein. I put my headphones on and just drove with the music turned up loud, singing at the top of my lungs. I needed to clear my head and make some important decisions.
Sunday Drives: Cape Town To Yzerfontein
I don’t know about you, but I enjoy road tripping, even if it’s just for the day. When I got to Yzerfontein, I went directly to the beach and found my dream house! It is right on the beach and is perfect. With my tummy rumbling, I decided to head to Rosemead Artisan Bakery & Cafe for breakfast. I am not a coffee connoisseur, but their Flat Whites were delicious. Before I left, I ordered four Pasteis de Nata’s – to enjoy at home with tea – but I had one in the car and it was amazing! They also sell fresh bread, croissants, pain au chocolat, cake, muffins and more. You can sit in the restaurant and watch them knead dough and bake all their tasty treats.
After breakfast, I got back into the car and drove along the coast and found a spot to park. I wanted to take a walk along the rocky coast and just enjoy the ocean. There are benches dotted along the paths and I found one with a great view of the huge, frothy waves beating against the shoreline. I must have taken about 200 photos of the waves pounding the rocky shore.
Sometimes, you can’t get away for the whole weekend and have to settle for a quick drive to anywhere. Just getting that space, fresh air and a sense of freedom is so good for the soul.
