Imagine waking up to the sound of the waves, opening the door and enjoying a cup of tea on the stoep. Take in the beautiful view of the Langebaan Lagoon, which is literally a minutes walk from the back gate. I had to pinch myself the first morning of my stay at Greystones Beach House. I couldn’t believe how peaceful, luxurious and relaxing this place was. And, if I have to be honest, I never wanted to leave. It was perfect.
Greystones Beach House
Built in the 1920’s, this historic mansion is unique to Langebaan, and has been in the same family for the last 5 generations. The house has 4 bedrooms, 2 sea-facing rooms with queen size beds, the 3rd has a double bed and one with 2 single beds, so there is ample room for the whole family. The living area consist of a beautiful open plan fully equipped kitchen and an inviting lounge with doors that open onto the stoep which faces the lagoon.
The Interior
We arrived in the afternoon and I barely had a chance to bring in our bags & unpack our groceries when my kids made a dash for the beach. The oldest one leaving a trail of clothing on the way. We live in Joburg, the beach is an awe-inspiring place for my kids. And yes, it was a warm winters day, so they both just jumped in. I got a few strange looks from locals and I just told them “Joburgers, what do you expect!”
The Beach
We stayed for 2 nights and we braai’ed for both of them. Greystones has a lovely built in braai on the back veranda and they supply the wood so all you need to do is bring your meat! It was perfect, a braai and a Langebaan Sunset = heaven.
